Student Services are an integral component of comprehensive
public schools. Services are available to complement the
curricular and instructional programs of the school district,
so all students can grow and learn.
- Special
education and related
services are provided to all students with disabilities
(0 - 21 years of age) and
to students with high ability in grades K - 12. Services
are provided in their neighborhood schools when possible.
- Guidance
and counseling services (external
link) assist
students with educational, social and emotional development
and personal
life planning.
The guidance program consists
of a district-approved curriculum and is delivered through training,
responsive services and personal life planning.
- School health services are provided
through school nurses at each school. Their goal is
to promote the
health and safety of students by helping them acquire
health knowledge and by responding directly to students' health needs.
- English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) services are offered
for those students who have immigrated and need to
attain English proficiency.
- Call 913-239-4400 for more information
about the Parents
as Teachers program or e-mail
Wendy Webb,
director of the Parents as Teachers program.
- Student
Services Advisory Committee studies
important topics and makes recommendations to the Board
of Education. They also help facilitate communication between
district patrons and the Board.
