Advisory committees are a valuable resource in the Blue Valley School District. The committees study important topics and make recommendations to the Board of Education. They also help facilitate communication between district patrons and the Board. There are seven standing committees:

  • Curriculum and Instruction
    Provides the district with a resource of knowledgeable and interested teachers, administrators and parents who review district curriculum and study topics and make suggestions that will benefit students individually and collectively.
  • Design and Construction
    Reviews design concepts and budgets for new buildings and major renovations. Reviews and advises the board on construction and facility-related issues such as bids, change orders, special agreements, easements, consulting and construction contracts.
  • Finance
    Reviews business activity for the school district. Also responsible for the oversight of all operating, special revenue, capital projects and bond funds. Reviews monthly bids and contracts recommended for board approval in addition to claims, disbursements and special fund transfers.
  • Facility Planning
    Examines and evaluates boundary alternatives utilizing established criteria and guidelines. Also develops a recommendation to the Board of Education for a Comprehensive Boundary Master Plan.
  • Student Activities
    Researches proposals to improve and enhance student activity programs regulated by the Kansas State High School Activities Association, and collaborates regarding programs that will benefit students individually and collectively.
  • Student Services
    Primarily addresses the issues within special education and gifted education. Other areas are: health services, the Parents as Teachers program and English Speakers of Other Languages, and non-violence and diversity. This committee may not hold regularly scheduled meetings, but will meet on an as needed basis.
  • Technology
    Reviews, advises and recommends strategic and tactical plans to implement and use technology in all areas of district operations.

Committee members are appointed prior to the school year and serve two-year terms. The application process occurs during the spring. Applications are kept on file for one year. Most committees typically meet monthly for approximately two hours.
