Presidential Challenge for Community Service

Who can participate?

Any student may earn the President's Student Service Award by completing 50 hours of community service over a one year period

 (4/1/12 to 4/1/13).

Here at LVE we recognize students who complete any number of community service hours. This program is a great way for families to hear about fun community service opportunities.  Each family may participate in as many or as few of the opportunities as they wish or they can plan activities on their own.

How am I recognized for all of my hard work?

If a student completes 50 or more hours of community service he/she will be awarded a signed certificate and silver pin from the President of the United States. Students earning this distinction will also be recognized during a school assembly in May of each year.

All students that participate, regardless of hours, will receive a recognition certificate and be invited to the Community Service Breakfast at the end of the school year.

How do I keep track of my hours?

Students keep track of their own service hours. Please record hours on the attached Tracking Form.

Tracking Forms are due to LVE by April 1, 2013.

All students can count 10 hours for service done at school.  Students can count any service hours completed
since April 1, 2012.
Summer hours count.

 What qualifies as community service?

The definition under the President's program is quite broad and basically includes any activity that has significant impact on meeting the needs of the community. This could include service with community, or religious organizations, school based projects or, very importantly, individual efforts to help others.
Fundraising or paid service hours do not qualify.

 How do I get started?

Complete the  Pledge Sheet and return it to LVE. Once you have done this, you will begin receiving e-mail updates about service opportunities that are planned by the Presidential Service Committee during the school year.  You are encouraged to begin planning activities on your own as well. As you  begin earning community service hours, don't forget to record them on your
Tracking Form.

What if I have questions?

Contact Leslie Simpson (239-7717) or Stephanie James (829-4054)with questions about the program.
