Changes take effect beginning with the 2011-12 school year.
On Monday, December 13, the Blue Valley Board of Education approved boundaries for Aubry Bend Middle School, Blue Valley's newest middle school, which will open in August 2011. Click here for a map of the new boundaries, which were previously referred to as Map E. These boundary changes take effect beginning with the 2011-12 school year.
To read a detailed description about how the boundary changes impact specific schools in the district, please see below.
Blue Valley Middle: Under the approved boundaries, all middle school students in the Stilwell Elementary attendance are assigned to attend Aubry Bend Middle School, instead of Blue Valley Middle. This includes current 6th and 7th grade students. Board policy states that students assigned to a new school are required to attend the new school for the first semester of the first year. Because of this, students assigned to Aubry Bend Middle would not be allowed to transfer to stay at Blue Valley Middle or attend any other middle school for the first semester.
Prairie Star Middle: Under the approved boundaries, all middle school students in the Stanley Elementary attendance area are assigned to attend Blue Valley Middle, instead of Prairie Star Middle. (Students at Prairie Star Middle and Blue Valley Middle would still continue on to Blue Valley High for high school.) The Board of Education also voted to grandfather-in current sixth and seventh grade students at Prairie Star Middle who live in the Stanley Elementary attendance area allowing these students the option to transfer and stay at Prairie Star Middle for the duration of their middle school years. In addition, any child who lives more than 2.5 miles away from Prairie Star or Blue Valley middle schools would qualify for free transportation for a period of two years. Parents of current sixth or seventh grade students at Prairie Star Middle who live in the Stanley Elementary area and who wish to be grandfathered-in and keep their child at Prairie Star Middle must complete a transfer form. If a transfer form is not received, Stanley Elementary attendance area students will be expected to attend Blue Valley Middle. Forms can be accessed here and are requested to be returned by February 1, 2011. If you have questions about the transfer process, please contact Erin Berzina, Planning and Demographic Research Coordinator, at (913) 239-4058.
