ABOUT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING IN BLUE VALLEY

The Blue Valley School District USD 229 is committed to on-going professional learning by and for all employees that will further the district's mission, vision and Strategic Plan. Professional Learning in Blue Valley supports the Blue Valley School District Strategic Plan goals to improve the personal growth and academic achievement of each student.

Professional learning provides teachers with the essential knowledge, skills and dispositions to improve student learning. Utilizing a multi-tiered system of professional learning, teachers access new learning as:

    • individuals addressing their own unique needs as a professional
    • members of a learning team within a school focused on the learning needs of students
    • part of a district staff improving professional practice in a systemic way

Effective professional learning must be relevant, collaborative, sustainable, results-oriented and embedded in the work of professional learning teams that support ongoing improvements in teachers' practice and student achievement.

Professional learning in Blue Valley provides each teacher with the opportunity to renew and maintain a professional license issued by the Kansas State Department of Education. The Blue Valley Professional Development Council facilitates continuous learning for all licensed staff members.
