Our reading program is built around a textbook and novels with the goal of improving reading skills and developing critical thinking skills. Our language arts are structured to teach basic writing skills using a six-trait model. In math, we use a hands-on approach to investigate mathematical concepts. Basic computation skills are also incorporated.
• In science, fifth graders experience a hands-on program that promotes discovery through the scientific method. Each child develops an invention as a culminating activity.
• A yearly highlight is the Kansas City Royals Day at the K game to learn about the science involved in monitoring and forecasting the weather.
• In social studies, students study early American history.
.• Special opportunities include beginning band, strings, choir, and student council.
Lunch hour is 12:30-1:00pm.
