*Snuggle and read  with your little one every day for at least 15-20 minutes. This invaluable time will instill an appreciation for literature and a love of reading throughout your child's lifetime!

*Help your child memorize the weekly nursery rhyme by singing, reciting and acting it out together as a family.  Watching everyone enjoy the fun and silliness of these whimsical poems will be motivating and fun for your kindergartner!

*S.T.A.R. homework is due each Monday. Please use a pencil to complete the assignments.

Help instill good homework habits now, here's how...

Be a motivator. Homework provides a great opportunity for you to tell your child how important school is. Be positive about homework. The attitude you express will be the attitude your child acquires.

Designate a regular time for homework. Daily homework rituals are key. Look for quiet, down time to work on the assigned tasks.

Don't do it all in one day. Help your child learn to pace themselves by not rushing to get it done in day one, nor waiting until the last moment to begin. Work on one task each day throughout the week.

Watch your child for signs of failure and frustration. If your child asks for help, provide guidance, not answers. If frustration sets in, suggest a short break or put it away until tomorrow.

Reward effort and progress in homework. If your child has been successful in homework completion and is working hard, celebrate that success with a special event to reinforce the positive effort.
