• Monet Landscapes

The second graders have been studying Claude Monet in art class. They learned that he helped invent an important style of painting called impressionism. During that time, people were used to paintings with sharp, clear images using dark moody colors. Monet started creating art that showed how pretty a garden looked in the sunlight. The second graders created their own garden scenes by sponging in a foreground, middle ground, and background.  They then added detail using oil pastels. They also demonstrated how artists create the illusion of depth in their art b using relative size, overlapping, and position on the picture plane.
