• Fifth Grade Multi Cultural Masks

In their home room classrooms, the fifth graders wrote a research report on the country of their choice. By studying the art that is created in different countries, students can really develop a better understanding of the countr's culture. In art we chose to focus on different masks and mask making techniques. Cultures throughout the world have created masks. Most of these masks were never intended as art objects to be seen in a museum setting, but they were meant to be part of the customs and traditions of the culture which prodeced them. After choosing a mask from their culture, the fifth graders recreated the mask by using paper mache, tempera paint, and other materials.
