• My Expectations for Homework

I think that school is very long and exhausting especially for awesome little people, at the end of the day our brains are tired so students should never spend more than ten minutes on homework (outside of reading) after school. Home is for playing and spending family time!

     Reading:

I would love if you and your child read together for at least 20 minutes every day at home. The more they read the better they will get!! They can read a library book, one of their books from school or a story at home. The important part is that your student reads every day. Attached is some research on how reading at home can improve vocabulary as well as overall reading skills.

     Math:

A few times a week I may send home a quick math practice page for your student to complete. This is meant to be for additional practice and your child should be able to complete the work independently. DO NOT spend more than 10 minutes on this! If your student is getting frustrated or upset, stop, send me an email and I will make time the next school day to work with them on it. They will not have any consequences if you communicate with me about it!

     Sight Words:

Sight word flash cards will be sent home at the beginning of each week. This is a copy for you to keep at home and practice. I would encourage practicing a few minutes every night and it can be part of their reading time if you choose.
