ABOUT THE PRINCIPAL
Degrees and Certifications:
Chris Legleiter grew up in Northeast Kansas and graduated from Kansas State University with degrees including his Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education and Masters in Education Administration. Prior to coming to Blue Valley, he taught and coached at Washburn Rural High School and St. Mary's High School.
Chris came to Blue Valley in 2003 and taught high school science for several years before changing roles from teaching to administration. He has been an Assistant Principal at both the middle school and high school levels before becoming the Principal of Leawood Middle. He is proud to be the Principal of Leawood Middle School and enjoys the opportunity to worth with the staff and partner with the parents/guardians to provide the best school experience for every student. Chris believes a quality school is one where students and staff develop connections and classroom instruction provides academic challenges through relevant methods that help students develop the skills needed in the future. He also looks forward to helping each student find a school activity that they can become involved in and experience success.
Chris and his wife Julie have 2 daughters that keep them busy with many school related activities. When he is not supporting the Eagles of LMS, he is supporting his daughters in their endeavors or spending time with his family.
ABOUT THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Melissa Corcoran is thrilled for the 2020-21 school year with the Leawood Middle community. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Kansas State University and a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Baker University.
Melissa's career began in 2007 with the Bonner Springs/Edwardsville school district, serving the Delaware Ridge Elementary community. Joining Blue Valley in 2015, Melissa taught two years at Stanley Elementary before joining the administrative team as an Administrative Intern at Lakewood Elementary, Oxford Middle and Timber Creek Elementary.
Melissa believes middle school is a rich time for the personal growth and well-being of each student. To create an environment where all children can flourish, it is vital for each member of our community to have a strong sense of belonging, beginning with solid and genuine relationships. Melissa is excited to begin building relationships and partnering with the staff, students and community of Leawood Middle School.
While Melissa is not at "the nest," she enjoys spending time with her husband, Curtis and their two children, Hadley and Hudson. Their favorite activities include supporting Kansas City teams, playing outside and finding the nearest ice cream shop for a treat! Go Eagles!
