    •   A message from our music teacher:
    • Dear 5th Grade Parents:

Our 5th Grade musical, A Kid's Life , is approaching on, November 18th, at 6:30 p.m.   The students have been practicing long and hard for this, and we can't wait to perform for our friends and family!  There will also be a dress rehearsal for the entire school, in the CHE gym at 2:45 the day of the performance.

If your child has a speaking part or solo, please work with them on memorizing their lines and helping them with their acting.  The parts need to be memorized by, November 15th . Dress for the concert will be very simple.  The students are to wear a plain black top with a nice pair of jeans , not jean shorts.  Students will need to dress according to their character if they are assigned the part of: Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, or Dad.

Every student is expected to attend the performance; we have been preparing all semester.  The evening of the concert, students need to meet in the CHE cafeteria, ready to go at 6:18 p.m.   (If you arrive earlier than 6:18, students need to wait with an adult in the gym until called to the cafeteria.)   If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  We have worked very hard on this musical, and cannot wait for you to see the finished product!

      Thank you,

    •   Hearing and Vision Screenings will be on Thursday, November 18.

    •
    • We will be conducting our classroom spelling bee next Wednesday. We will start with one practice round. The final three students will get to participate in the Cedar Hills School Spelling Bee.

    •  A note about Study Island: The students have a certain percentage they must get to in order to pass the test and get a ribbon. If they do not pass the test it will take an average and they have to continue to get their score up to the percentage. The students will be required to pass the test and have the next full week to get the percentage up.

    • Study Island has tests open and is ready to go! The students are aware that they are to complete the Main Idea and Supporting Details and Problem solving tests by Oct. 31st.
    •
    • The students also have a password to use the website www.xtramath.org. I will also place this site on my website under the "Links for Students" tab. This website is a great way to practice their facts!  I have asked the students to try and use this to review math facts for about 10 minutes per day a few times a week. They are aware that I am able to see their progress :) (Note: You will need my e-mail to sign in: alclaiborne@bluevalleyk12.org)

    •   The After School Study Club begins on Wednesday, Sept. 29th.It will be held each Wednesday in the library.  This program is sponsored by the CHE PTO.  It is a great opportunity for students to have help with homework and enjoy extra learning time after school.
    •
    •   Study Island usernames and passwords came home this a couple of weeks ago along with an information sheet.  All current math and reading indicators are uploaded on the website if your child would like to start practicing at home.  These are not required homework assignments YET, but please be watching the planners during the next few weeks as we will begin to assign indicators to be completed at home.
    •
    • A note about homework: All homework will be posted on Mondays and due on Fridays.  We would prefer for you to print out the homework at home.  If you do not have a printer (or your printer runs out of ink :-)  ), please let me know.  I can print off some homework pages at school as they are needed.
