    About Mrs. Kunkel

I am so excited to begin my fourteenth year of teaching third grade at Cedar Hills. Third grade is a magical age and my favorite place to be! This is my 26th year in the classroom.  My teaching career began in the Shawnee Mission School District, where I taught for three years.  I then taught in the Olathe School District for seven years.  After the birth of my second child I spent four years at home being a mom and providing daycare in my home.  I joined the Blue Valley School District 16 years ago.

My educational background includes a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University and master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Emporia State University.

Mr. Kunkel and I have been married for 27 years. We have two daughters.  Tori graduated from K-State with a degree in microbiology.  She is in med school at KU.  Olivia is a senior at K-State.  She is studying kinesiology.  (Our home is full of purple pride!)

As a family we love to eat out, go on hikes and play games.  We also enjoy traveling.  This summer we spent a week on Sanibel Island.

I am an avid reader. Books can open your world to so many possibilities.  One of the reasons I became a teacher was to enrich children's lives with the world of books.  You can often hear me say, "This is one of my FAVORITE books."  I am proud that I have been able to pass on the love of reading to my own children and students.

Our third grade team enjoys working together to maximize our strengths as instructors as well as the potential of each and every third grade student.  I am very fortunate to be a part of this collaborative team.
