    ·      Ninth Grade Band Co-curricular course open to ninth graders and upperclassmen who have course conflicts with the other bands. The ninth-grade band performs with the upperclassmen during marching season. (Marching season is first quarter of the Fall term.) The ninth grade band rehearses to advance technical facility and artistry throughout the school year. During marching season, this class rehearses during the academic day, at two before school rehearsals per week and one night rehearsal per week. Early and evening rehearsals conclude in mid-October.

    o   Required:  Attendance at performances

    o   Prerequisite:  Previous participation in a school band

    o   BAND CAMP for ninth graders - mornings the last week of July and the first week of August

     

    ·      Concert Band  Co-curricular course that is part of the marching band during the first quarter of the Fall term and performs fine wind and percussion literature during the next three quarters.

    o   Required:  Attendance at performances

    o   Prerequisite:  Previous participation in school band program and ensemble placement by director

    o   BAND CAMP - last week of July and the first week of August

     

    ·      Symphonic Marching Band  Co-curricular course that includes marching band in the first quarter and advanced band literature for the remaining three quarters.

    o   Required:  Attendance at performances, camp

    o   Prerequisite:  Previous participation in school band program and ensemble placement by director after live auditions during the previous spring term.

    o  BAND CAMP - last week of July and the first week of August

     

    ·      Jazz Ensemble  Co-curricular course studying history and theory of jazz music both academically and in performance settings.

    o   Required - Attendance at performances

    o   Prerequisite: Enrollment in band or orchestra or by invitation of director. Ability to read music.

     

    ·      Music Theory Open to any student with a background of the fundamentals of musicianship. Students learn to expand their basic understanding of music history, harmony and figured bass and composition. Permission of the instructor is required.

    o   Prerequisiteability to read music notation and a performance skill on one instrument and/or voice.

     

    ·    Honors Music Theory Advances students with more than a fundamental knowledge of musicianship into a position to take advanced placement and college placement exams. This course requires that students have a more than basic and working knowledge of chord, scales, figured bass and melodic construction. It assumes students have a basic familiarity with music history, musical form and styles.

    o   Prerequisite:  Students should have a performance skill on an instrument and/or voice.

    o   Prerequisite:  Permission of the instructor is requried and completion of the Music Theory course is STRONGLY encourage.

    Follow the descriptions below to determine enrollment into a specific choir:

    Concert Choir (Non Audition)

    Navy & Silver Chorus– all freshmen and students who have not sung at BVN before.

    Chorale (Audition)

    Mustang Chorale – sophomores, juniors and senior by audition/invitation of the director.  Auditions taken and roster announced in March.

    Choraliers (Audition)

    Mustang Singers – all sophomores, juniors and senior who did not complete an audition for Mustang Chorale, or who were not placed in Chorale or Women’s Chorale.

    Chamber Choir (Audition)

    Chamber Choirsophomores, juniors and seniors by audition.  Auditions taken and roster announced in March.

    Women's Chamber - sophomores, juniors and seniors by audition.  Auditions taken and roster announced in March.

     
  • Orchestra

    • Concert Orchestra - Co-curricular course that allows string players to perform outstanding orchestral literature at a difficulty level appropriate for this ensemble to increase their technical proficiency 
      • Required - Attendance at performances
      • Prerequisite:  Previous participation in school orchestra program

    • Symphonic Orchestra - Co-curricular course that allows qualified string players to play challenging orchestral literature and increase their technical proficiency
      • Required - Attendance at performances
      • Prerequisite:  Previous participation in high school orchestra
