AVID

Advancement Via Individual Determination, or AVID, is offered at all district high schools to help students build the study and learning skills needed for advanced classes. The program also prepares students for success at four-year colleges and universities.

Students must be recommended by staff to apply. As part of the application process, AVID teachers interview applicants, and not all are accepted.

The program teaches instructional strategies, test- and note-taking skills, time management and other research-based approaches to learning. Students who join AVID as freshmen remain with the same teachers and classmates through their senior year, meeting daily and building a strong sense of community.
