Peer Model Program

The Peer Model Program provides an opportunity for typically developing children to be integrated into Early Childhood Special Education classrooms, where they serve as role models for children with special needs.

Peer model students promote positive peer interactions, demonstrate play skills, and model appropriate language and behavior for their classmates with special needs in the classroom setting.

To qualify, a peer model must demonstrate age-appropriate skills in the areas of play, social interaction, behavior, speech, language and motor development. Peer models must also be independent with toileting and speak English fluently. Children must be at least 3 years old before attending and not be age-eligible to enroll in kindergarten.

A limited number of peer model slots are available each year. Applications open in December for the following school year, and enrollment continues as space allows.

Enrollment is Open

The Blue Valley Early Childhood Peer Program is now accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year.

How to Apply to the Peer Model Program

Families applying during January and February will be notified of their application status by the end of February. Remaining applicants will be placed on a first-come, first-served basis as space allows.

A fee of $12 per day will be assessed for all peer model students (fee subject to change). Families will pay a portion of the fee upon acceptance into the program, with the remaining balance paid in monthly installments from September through March.

Peers may enroll at any time during the school year if space is available. To qualify, children must be at least 3 years old, not age-eligible for kindergarten, independent with toileting, and fluent in English. Children who qualify for special education services, including speech therapy, are not eligible to participate as peer models.
