Week of August 22...

Dear Families,

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a great weekend. We had a fantastic weekend that was full of birthday parties, sleeping, family time and the lake. Our favorite place to spend a Sunday afternoon is Clinton Lake in Lawrence. We take our boat up and float the day away.  Michael swam for 3 hours and was exhausted by the time we got home!  We are all ready for a great 2nd week of school.

  • MAP Testing:  We will be MAP testing this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.  This test is extremely important as it helps us guide our instruction for each child.  Please make sure your child has had a healthy, filling breakfast!  We test 10-12:00 each of those days.

  • Genius Hour :  We are starting our Genius Hour this week. If you go to You Tube you will find hundreds of videos on Genius Hour. This is an amazing time where students get to research and be involved in their own choice learning.  One requirement of Genius Hour is to contact an "expert" in the field they are studying.  I am wanting to compile a list of "Experts."  So if you would be willing to work with a student, via email or phone, please email me.  For example, if your job is working with numbers let me know.  Or if you are a vet some of our students studying animals could contact you!  Thank you!

  • THANK YOU! For all of the donations of mints and turtle food and other supplies. It is all very much appreciated. These kids go through mints like you wouldn't believe! LOL

  • Math:  We are off and running with Topic 1-Place Value.  We will have our first test early next week. Students will have homework a few days this week in math.

  • Homework : Just a reminder that students should spend 0-30 minutes on homework a night.  I would like to see students spend 15-20 minutes a night reading.  So, if they don't have homework then reading should be their focus.
