Week of September 5th...

ear Families, Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend and was able to enjoy the wonderful weather and family time. We spent time at the lake, in the pool and I was able to have some Momma time! A perfect long weekend. I am ready for Fall and the change in weather! • Math Test: Topic 1 test didn’t go as well as I had hoped. Our class average was a 78%. There are two different areas that the class as a whole struggled with. I will be working through re-teaching these sections the next week. We will also start Intervention Block groups to help students with individual skills next week. Students who scored a 69 or below can make corrections and return it to me by Thursday for ½ credit. • Test Grades: All final tests are worth 100 points this year. So if you look at a test and it says 25/27, then I take the percentage 93% and the student gets 93 points. I always round up!  • Grade Updates: I know a lot of you have been on Parent Vue checking grades. That is great way to keep up with what we have been working on. Please know that grades are updated each week by Tuesday at 10am. If you check on Monday they won’t be updated and there might be missing assignments that aren’t really missing. Same thing for a Friday. If you ever have questions about grades please let me know. (Now, I am a bit behind because of the 3 day weekend so grades will be updated this week Wednesday by 10am!) • WSC: The Wilderness Science Center field trip is Monday! I still need parent volunteers. Please let me know ASAP if you can attend. Permission slips will be coming home soon. • Newsela: I have introduced students to their newsela accounts. We have explored here at school. Tonight they will have a homework assignment to complete on this website. This would be a great time for you to take a look too! • Blogging: Blogging is off and running! They are doing a great job. They should get online Tuesday and Thursday night to complete their blog for this week. Please don’t have your child read ahead! I promise they won’t get overwhelmed by the reading and it makes it hard for me to see their process if they read ahead! • Mark your calendars: September 12th Wilderness Science Center Field Trip. October 5th Wildwood Field Trip! • Genius Hour: The students have all started their Genius Hour projects. We discussed experts today so please let me know if you would like to be on our “Expert” list! For example, if your job is working with numbers let me know. Or if you are a vet some of our students studying animals could contact you! Thank you! • Specials Schedule: (Today is a Day 3) o Day 1: PE/Music o Day 2: Computer o Day 3: Art o Day 4: Spanish/Music o Day 5: PE/Spanish • Important Dates: (New dates bolded) September 12th: Wilderness Science Center Field Trip September 13th: Early Release September 16th: Mrs. Duggan Gone All Day September 23rd: ½ Day of School-Professional Development October 5th: Wildwood Field Trip Math: Topic 2—Adding and Subtracting Decimals Reading: Main Idea/Fact Opinion Writing: Potato Narratives Word Work: aero- Social Studies: Bill of Rights-making collages and writing speeches Science: Analyzing scientific method---Producers Intervention: Reading Groups/problem solving
