Blue Valley Northwest names Ihm fourth basketball coach in program history
Blue Valley Northwest will have a new coach at the helm for the 2021-22 season—Aaron Ihm (pending board approval). Ihm is currently serving as the head basketball coach at Raytown South where he won a state championship in 2020.
Coach Ihm has a strong high school and collegiate coaching background with stops at Bethany College, Sonoma State University in Northern California and the University of Nevada-Reno before returning to his home state of Missouri to take the head basketball position at Raytown South. During his six years at Raytown South, Ihm has a 77% postseason winning percentage, won five district championships, four elite eights, three suburban conference championships, two final fours and one state championship in 2020. Coach Ihm is also a two-time Missouri State Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year.
“Coach Ihm has a strong track record of building successful basketball programs,” said John Hilton, Blue Valley Northwest Athletic Director. “He is a family man who models to his student athletes how to be a great husband and father. We feel blessed to have found a high-caliber basketball coach that already has experience taking over for a legendary coach, embracing traditions and putting his own stamp on a program. We are excited to start a new era for BVNW basketball and Coach Ihm is the right man to lead us into the new era.”
Dr. Amy Pressly, Blue Valley Northwest Principal said, “We are excited and honored to have Coach Ihm join our Husky family as both a teacher and a coach. During our interview process, it was clear that Coach Ihm is the person meant to carry on the strong tradition of Husky basketball that has been built by Coach Fritz. We know that Coach Ihm will honor our traditions while at the same time make the program his own. We are looking forward to the entire Ihm family joining the BVNW family.”
Ihm is a graduate of Carthage High School where he was captain of the football, basketball and baseball teams. After high school, he continued his athletic and academic pursuits at Bethany College where he played baseball, was captain of the football team and participated in two NAIA National Championship Playoffs. Ihm resides in the Blue Valley School District with his wife and three children who are avid athletes.
Coach Ihm will be introduced to student athletes and families in the BVNW basketball program later this week.
