STARS OF SERVICE

  • Stanley is truly a community that cares. Our school has a long and wonderful history of generosity and doing good work to benefit our local community. For the 2016 – 17 school year we will continue to take community service to even higher levels at Stanley.

Your student can become a Star of Service by participating in community service projects and tracking their hours. Hours will be tallied three times a year and students will be recognized for their efforts to benefit the community! The top four Star of Service students who achieve over 50 hours of community service will receive special recognition at The President's Volunteer Service Award ceremony hosted by Blue Valley Schools in May 2017. All community service logs are due to the Stanley office by April 1, 2017.

FAQS

  • What is Community Service?

    Posted by:

Community service is defined as time spent doing unpaid good deeds for the benefit of others. The work your student does must benefit the community at large or individuals outside your own family. Projects your student does through religious or membership groups (like Scouts) must provide a public service to the community in order to be counted as community service.

  • I don't know how to get my student involved in community service. How do we start?

    Posted by:

There are countless ways to get your kids and your family involved in community service. Volunteering is a wonderful way to share positive values of kindness, service, and generosity with your children, plus it's FUN to do! Most children love the idea of doing something good for others - you simply need to open the door to opportunity. Have a conversation with your child about their interests and how they would like to get involved in service. Does your child like animals? Helping people? Are they interested in creative projects, writing letters, or cleaning up the environment? Throughout the school year ahead, many volunteer opportunities will be shared with the Stanley community via email and posted on the PTO website. Check the website frequently for Stars of Service updates, find one that interests your child, and then take action!
