Mr. Dylan Owings

Hello Everyone,

My name is Dylan Owings, and I am thrilled to be serving as the middle school assistant principal for Lakewood Middle School. Overland Park holds a special place in my heart as it's where I was born and raised. After graduating from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in Biology - Secondary Education, I spent six years at Pleasant Ridge Middle School. There, I taught a variety of subjects, including 7th grade social studies, science, reading intervention, and humanities. Additionally, I also served as a head track coach, an assistant football coach, and founded the Hype Crew. During my time at Pleasant Ridge, I pursued my passion for leadership by earning a master's degree in school leadership from Baker University.

My wife, Jenna, and I have been married since 2017 and school-related topics are a regular part of conversations between us, since Jenna is an elementary school counselor. We are the proud parents of two awesome children: our son Crew, who is 3 years old, and daughter Palmer, who will turn 1 in October of this year (2023).

When I am not at LKMS or chasing my toddler around, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, building furniture and taking on woodworking projects. I also enjoy planning activities for my children and am always on the lookout for new adventures. I can also be found eating good food, watching football, and spending time outside.

I am stoked to bring my love for all things middle school to the Lakewood community. I thrive on spreading infectious energy and enthusiasm to everyone around me. For me, it's all about connections! I firmly believe that fostering genuine connections among students, staff, and families is crucial to creating an amazing middle school experience. At Lakewood, we're all about building a safe and inclusive environment where students can be themselves and grow academically, socially and emotionally. Additionally, I am constantly finding ways to inject fun and excitement into our school culture. Let's turn middle school into the most amazing three years of school ever!
