SPELLING BEE
ANY student with an interest may participate in the online qualifier which will include spelling and vocabulary. The top 8-10% scores from each grade will be invited to participate in the school-wide oral bee on January 6th. More information about the qualifier will be forthcoming. The school wide bee and the county bee will be spelling only. The online qualifying exam and the national bee will include vocabulary. In the meantime, students can begin using and studying bee resources. Study Packets are available for download.
The spelling bee qualifying exam date will be announced at a later date.

JAZZ BAND
Panther Jazz Band will be starting up very soon! Jazz Band is open to 7th or 8th Graders with prior musical experience. We meet twice a week, normally Tuesdays for rhythm section and Thursday for woodwinds/brass at 7:00am in the band room. There is no cost to participate, just a willingness to try something new and a commitment to showing up for rehearsal.
The Panther Jazz Band uses saxophones, trumpets, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, drum set, and auxiliary percussion. *if your student does not play one of these instruments, other woodwinds such as flute or clarinet can easily learn a saxophone as a secondary instrument in most cases, and brass players such as baritone, French horn, and tuba can learn trumpet or trombone in most cases. See Mr. Aubrey if you fit in this category. Please sign up in the band room and stay tuned for more information!
Please contact Mr. Aubrey at [email protected] if you have questions. -

TCB Program
TCB (Taking Care of Business) is our after-school homework help/tutoring program. It is available Monday-Thursday (never on Fridays) from 3:00 – 4:00 and is open to all students grades 6-8. It will be held in the 6th grade pod – no prior notification is necessary to attend. However, it is intended for individual work/study rather than group project work/discussions. Each daily session is staffed by a PSMS teacher. Students are expected to stay the entire hour unless being picked up by a parent at a specific earlier time. There is no school-provided transportation following TCB.
