Dr. Trent Stern

Dr. Stern grew up in Northeast Colorado and attended the University of Kansas where he earned his bachelor's and master's degree in education.  He joined Blue Valley in 1997 and for 18 years he served as an English language arts teacher, reading specialist, department chair, and football coach at Harmony Middle and Blue Valley West.  Dr. Stern went on to serve on the district's education services support team for two years and earn his doctorate in educational leadership from Baker University before becoming an assistant principal at Oxford Middle in 2017.

 

In his 28th year in education and 7th as principal of OTMS, Dr. Stern is immensely proud of the students, staff, and community that make up Overland Trail.  He and his wife Jill, also a Blue Valley educator, have three children.  Their oldest daughter is a graduate of Blue Valley West, and they have boy-girl twins who are graduates of Blue Valley High.

 

Dr. Stern believes that ALL kids deserve to feel safe, respected, challenged and loved.  He strives to build and cultivate a school culture that inspires students to dream, create, learn and grow. This vision is possible because of the talented, caring, and committed adults working together to empower kids.  

 

Dr. Stern is honored to serve the OTMS community as principal and looks forward to continuing to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families and provide meaningful educational experiences that develop the whole child and build on the rich tradition at Overland Trail Middle.

Mrs. Meaghan Graber

Hi Falcons!

 

My name is Meaghan Graber and I am honored to serve as the Assistant Principal at Overland Trail Middle School. Prior to this role, I have had opportunities to learn and lead in several Blue Valley schools, including teaching seventh grade math at Pleasant Ridge and Leawood Middle Schools, Assistant Principal at Lakewood Middle School, and most recently Principal at Wolf Springs Elementary School.

 

It is a privilege to serve the students, staff, and community here at OTMS. Our school is dedicated to cultivating an environment of academic and social growth for all. We will work together to provide students with an exceptional learning experience where students are safe, cared for, and included.

 

My family includes my husband, Justin, and our three children, Lucas, Henry, and Molly. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, being outdoors, running and spending time with my family.

 

I am looking forward to working together this year!

Dr. David Sharp

Dr. David Sharp has served in public education for over 30 years, with the past two years as principal of Blue Valley Northwest High School.  Before Blue Valley,  Dr. Sharp retired as a long-time Lee’s Summit School R7 School District administrator.  While at LSR7, Dr. Sharp served as Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education,  Principal of Lee’s Summit West High School, Principal of Summit Technology Academy, and Principal of Pleasant Lea Middle School. Dr. Sharp has also served as a middle school/high school science teacher and has coached several varsity sports. Dr. Sharp holds a Doctorate in Education Leadership from Baker University, a Masters Degree and Education Specialist Degree in Secondary Administration from the University of Missouri, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Central Missouri.  

 

Notable achievements marked Dr. Sharp’s leadership at  Blue Valley Northwest. BVNW observed significant increases in Kansas Assessment Program Scores for Literacy, Mathematics, and Science, PLC recalibration, and improved culture and climate. As principal of Lee’s Summit West,  the school was recognized as a Missouri Gold Star School, a National Blue Ribbon School, and earned the U.S. News and World Report Silver Medalist. LSW  was also named one of the top ten schools in Missouri for College Prep. The school’s ACT scores consistently earned the top three KCMO metro honors annually.   As the principal of Summit Technology Academy, Dr. Sharp led the school to be named a top 15 PLTW school in the nation. STA was one of three schools in the country to earn the Technical Centers that Work Gold Readiness Award for student achievement in 2010.

 

Dr. Sharp's commitment to public education is unwavering. His mission is to collaborate with parents, teachers, and the community to help OTMS students discover their passion, develop a strong sense of purpose, and instill tremendous pride in their school and community. His dedication has been recognized with several awards, including the Greater Kansas City Principals Association High School Principal of the Year in 2015 and the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals State High School Principal of the Year in 2015. He was also honored with a place on Baker University’s Wall of Honor,  and was chosen as the 2017 UMKC Alumni Achievement Award Winner for the School of Education. Dr. Sharp's personal life is equally fulfilling, as a US Army veteran and husband to his wife Heather for over 25  years. They have three grown children, Ashton and Austin, and their youngest, Allyson, is currently a Junior at the University of Missouri.
