My name is Ryan Colburn, and I am excited to be the Acting Principal here at Leawood Middle School.  This is my 25th year in education, where I have taught and coached in many different schools during that time.  My wife and I have been married for 24 years and have two awesome kids.  My daughter is in college studying Pharmacy and my son is in high school where he plays basketball and lacrosse.  I am a proud third generation Jayhawk where I received my bachelor's degree in mathematics education.  I hold two master's degrees from Baker University as well in school leadership and education.

I love working in middle schools.  This is such a great time in the lives of kids and their development, and I appreciate the opportunity to help guide students through these amazing times in their lives.

My name is Michael Richards, and I am the assistant principal at Leawood Middle School.  Our goal, as administrators at LMS, is to create a positive learning experience for your child(ren).  Part of that experience is creating a positive relationship with both students and families.  The administrative team at LMS prides themselves on being transparent in the hallways, classroom, lunchroom, etc. to help build those relationships with our students.

Prior to administration, I served as a science teacher at the middle and high school level.  I spent 4 years at Oxford Middle School and 2 years at Blue Valley Northwest High School.  In my time at OMS and BVNW I coached MS and HS Football, MS Boys/MS and HS Girls Basketball, and MS Track and Field.  I believe the most genuine relationships are formed outside the classroom.  My passion is to get kids involved after the 3:00 bell rings in many of our club/activity/athletic opportunities.  I would encourage you to make your students get involved in something at LMS!

When not at LMS, my wife (Julie) and I enjoy spending time with our son, Cooper.  We also enjoy traveling and hanging out with family and friends.
