JAGUAR Athletics = Family +Pride+Grit
As we head into girls and boys basketball tournament weekends, wrestling tournament weekend and a swim meet, it is clear that our winter sports are into their busiest part of the season and spring is just around the corner!
- The West community takes tremendous pride in our sportsmanship and we want everyone to positively contribute to our JAGUAR PRIDE! Winter sports present a much bigger challenge for all of us to remember how to appropriately handle ourselves as JAGUAR fans! Indoor events put fans much closer to the game, which make it louder and easier to be heard and noticed. Everyone has a specific role at a sporting event - coach, parent, athlete, official, etc. It is when we try parent and coach or coach and officiate or parent and officiate, that we can cross the line of good sportsmanship. Please remind yourself to be positive, supportive and most importantly, enjoy the game!
NCAA February Signing Ceremony - Feb. 4th is the National Letter of Intent Day.
We will recognize those student-athletes on Tuesday, February 10th, at 1:30. If your son/daughter is planning to participate in this event, please call Kandi Wright and confirm this. 913.239.3771. We want to make sure we don't miss anyone on this special day! We will have our final celebration in April for any spring signings.
NCAA Clearinghouse Information
If your son/daughter has aspirations of competing at the college level, it is important to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse as early as their sophomore year. This must be done online. Go to http://web1.ncaa.org/ECWR2/NCAA_EMS/NCAA.jsp to get registered. If you have any questions, contact your counselor or Cindy Roach at West.
Spring Sports begin Monday, March 2nd
- if you have a spring sport athlete that has not already participated in a fall or winter sport, please make sure you get all the forms turned in to the athletic office prior to the start of winter sports. Coaches will be having pre-season meetings and conditioning, so that is a good time to get more information. Conditioning is not required, but encouraged. Winter sport athletes cannot participate in spring sport conditioning.
