Athletics = Family +Pride+Grit
Excellence

Welcome back! Along with the cold temperatures, our winter sports in full force and the next two months are busy with games, meets, tournaments and championships.

Sportsmanship
The West community takes tremendous pride in our sportsmanship and we want everyone to positively contribute to our JAGUAR PRIDE! Winter sports present a much bigger challenge for all of us to remember how to appropriately handle ourselves as JAGUAR fans! Indoor events put fans much closer to the game, which make it louder and easier to be heard and noticed. Everyone has a specific role at a sporting event – coach, parent, athlete, official, etc. It is when we try parent and coach or coach and officiate or parent and officiate, that we can cross the line of good sportsmanship. Please remind yourself to be positive, supportive and most importantly, enjoy the game!

NCAA Clearinghouse Information
If your son/daughter has aspirations of competing at the college level, it is important to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse as early as their sophomore year. This must be done online. Go to http://web1.ncaa.org/ECWR2/NCAA_EMS/NCAA.jsp to get registered. If you have any questions, contact your counselor or Cindy Roach at West.

Spring Sports begin Monday, March 2nd
If you have a spring sport athlete that has not already participated in a fall or winter sport, please make sure you get all the forms turned in to the athletic office prior to the start of winter sports. Coaches will be having pre-season meetings and conditioning, so that is a good time to get more information. Conditioning is not required, but encouraged. Winter sport athletes cannot participate in spring sport conditioning.

The BVW Athlete

Blue Valley West Jaguar Athletics promotes sportsmanship, character, and competition. The Blue Valley School District supports eighteen sports with the opportunity for participation for all grade levels. All activities are governed by Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA). There are six classifications of competition, with 6A being the 32 largest schools (grades 10-12) in Kansas. Student-athletes must maintain academic eligibility to participate in all KSHSAA activities. For the 2014-2015 school year, Blue Valley West will compete in 5A competition for all sports.
