How is third grade work assessed?
Third grade is a transitional year for grading. Students begin to understand the foundation of a percentage/letter grade grading scale used in fourth grade. The third grade team has adopted a more "kid friendly" grading system to help prepare students as well as to give them meaningful feedback on the quality and content of their work. You will see the marks below on daily work, assignments, and tests:
.
How does this 5 point scale relate to the 3,2,1, scale on our grade cards?
Our grade cards are graded on a scale of 3, 2, & 1.
Percentages Daily Work Report Card 90-100% + 3 (above expectations) 85-89% /+ 2 (developing appropriately) 80-84% / 2 (developing appropriately) 75-79% /- 1 (requires support) <74% - 1 (requires support)
It is my expectation that each and every student in this class will experience success. It is important that students experience both responsibility and accomplishment. These are two things that will help you succeed the rest of your life. I do not give grades, students earn grades. Our hope is that in time, your student can independently assess and discuss his/her academic progress with you.
