BOARD OF EDUCATION VACANCY

  • Patrons invited to apply for the vacant Board of Education position

    Patrons of Blue Valley Schools who have an interest in serving on the Board of Education are invited to apply for the District 1, NE area, Position 4 vacancy. The vacancy exists due to the resignation of Kaety Bowers, who represented the northeast area. The Board of Education shall fill this vacancy for District 1, NE area, Position 4, by appointment for the remainder of the unexpired term, through January 2026. 

     

    About the Application Process

    The Blue Valley Board of Education will oversee the search process.

     

    • Candidates must be registered to vote and live within District 1 (NE) boundaries to apply.

    • Completed and signed applications must be mailed or hand-delivered by 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023, to Anna Sweeney, Clerk of the Board, at Blue Valley District Office, 15020 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66223.

    • Emailed applications will not be accepted.
    • Applications will not be accepted after 4:00 p.m.
    • Interviews will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Blue Valley District Office, 15020 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66223 in the Board of Education Room.

     

    About Board of Education Responsibilities 

    The mission of the Blue Valley Board of Education is to provide leadership, vision, and support to Blue Valley Schools that ensures an equitable, world-class education and creates lifelong learning by:

     

    • setting a strategic direction that ensures student achievement

    • developing responsive policies

    • promoting community collaboration

    • holding ourselves accountable to the patrons of the district

     

    The Board of Education typically meets on the second Monday of each month for a morning workshop and evening meeting, as well as for frequent daytime meetings and advisory committee meetings. Board members must be able to attend these meetings. In addition to regularly scheduled meetings, the Board requires approximately 10 hours a week for reading, researching, attend various meetings, school visits, telephone calls, and email correspondence.
