Patrons of Blue Valley Schools interested in recreation and community service are invited to apply for a commissioner opening on the Blue Valley Recreation Commission (BVRC). No previous recreation commission experience is required.

Bre McGranahan and Kale Mann selected to represent Blue Valley for Kansas Master Teacher Award
Congratulations to Blue Valley educators Bre McGranahan and Kale Mann who have been selected as Blue Valley’s candidates for the 2024 Kansas Master Teacher award. Emporia State University established the Kansas Master Teacher awards in 1954. The awards are presented annually to seven teachers across the state who have served the profession long and well and typify the good qualities of earnest and conscientious teachers.

Blue Valley School District is thrilled to announce an extraordinary milestone in academic excellence that sets the standard for educational achievement in the state of Kansas. With an astonishing 56 high school seniors recognized as National Merit Semifinalists, Blue Valley continues to be the undisputed leader in the state's educational landscape, accounting for a remarkable 39% of all National Merit Semifinalists in Kansas, the most in any Kansas school district.

Blue Valley commits to train 900+ employees in Mental Health First Aid, first in-house training set for Sept. 5
In response to growing demands for mental health support for students in our community, Blue Valley has embraced Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) a program that equips individuals to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Blue Valley’s 17 certified MHFA trainers are set to conduct the first of many training sessions on Sept. 5, 2023.

We will help to accommodate your request and make necessary arrangements for photo and/or video permission if appropriate.
- Blue Valley Schools does not allow media activity that may negatively interfere with teaching and learning, misrepresent the district and/or students or compromise the safety of students and staff.
- The district will use its discretion to vet media requests based on the scope of the request, intended use, potential disruption to school operations, deadline, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act guidelines and other factors. Most requests, but not all, will be accommodated.

MEDIA ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
- Members of the media should contact the communications office and receive permission before going to a school. If you have not prearranged your visit, you may be asked to leave school grounds.
- Once you have been granted permission to be on school grounds, you must provide a government issued I.D. at the buzz-in entry to enter all Blue Valley school buildings. For the safety of our students there will be no exceptions.
- Students and staff will be informed that they have the right to refuse to be interviewed, photographed or videotaped.
- Members of the media should contact the communications office and receive permission before going to a school. If you have not prearranged your visit, you may be asked to leave school grounds.

PHOTOGRAPHY/FILMING
- Please respect our students and staff members’ right to privacy. Only students with photo releases may be photographed or filmed and only after the district has given permission (see “Media on school grounds”). Reporters and photographers should check with the school to confirm student photo releases before printing, posting or airing pictures or footage.
- Permission from the communications office is not necessary when covering public events such as athletics; cheer, dance, color guard and band competitions; theater and musical performances; and parades.
- Please respect our students and staff members’ right to privacy. Please see the guidelines for submitting a public records request. In some cases, the information sought may already be available online. Examples include budget information, policies and regulations, school board information and school and district state test scores.
