Two Blue Valley North seniors receive national recognition
Two Blue Valley North seniors are among an elite group of high school seniors. Elizabeth Rushing Place and Luke Wen-Tsu Chen were among only 161 students named 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars. Both Place and Chen plan to attend Harvard this fall. The program recognizes the nation’s most distinguished high school seniors for their academic success, artistic excellence, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals.

Board member informational meeting set for April 20
Interested in becoming a Blue Valley Board of Education member, but need to know more about a board member's responsibilities and commitments? Blue Valley patrons interested in learning about running for a seat on the Board of Education are invited to attend an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20.

Blue Valley Southwest Teacher Matt Christensen named 2023 Kansas Master Teacher
The seven members of the 2023 class of Kansas Master Teachers sponsored by Emporia State University were announced today. Blue Valley Southwest social studies teacher Matt Christensen was named to that list of Master Teachers.

Congratulations to Misty Dimitt, 1st grade teacher at Liberty View Elementary, and Matt Christensen, Social Studies teacher at Blue Valley Southwest, on being selected as Blue Valley’s candidates for the 2023 Kansas Master Teacher Award.

Blue Valley Schools named best district in Kansas, top 100 in the nation and more
Niche’s 2023 Best Schools in America rankings confirm that Blue Valley and its teachers continue to be the best in the state, region and county. The district and its teachers topped Best School District and District with the Best Teachers lists for Kansas, the Kansas City area and Johnson County. In addition, the district was named one of the top 100 Best School Districts in America coming in at #69.

MEDIA INQUIRIES
- All members of the media should contact the communications office at (913) 239-4347 or email [email protected] before contacting any school, student or employee regarding school or district issues. We will help to accommodate your request and make necessary arrangements for photo and/or video permission if appropriate.
- Blue Valley Schools does not allow media activity that may negatively interfere with teaching and learning, misrepresent the district and/or students or compromise the safety of students and staff.
- The district will use its discretion to vet media requests based on the scope of the request, intended use, potential disruption to school operations, deadline, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act guidelines and other factors. Most requests, but not all, will be accommodated.

MEDIA ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
- Members of the media should contact the communications office and receive permission before going to a school. If you have not prearranged your visit, you may be asked to leave school grounds.
- Once you have been granted permission to be on school grounds, you must provide a government issued I.D. at the buzz-in entry to enter all Blue Valley school buildings. For the safety of our students there will be no exceptions.
- Students and staff will be informed that they have the right to refuse to be interviewed, photographed or videotaped.
- Members of the media should contact the communications office and receive permission before going to a school. If you have not prearranged your visit, you may be asked to leave school grounds.

PHOTOGRAPHY/FILMING
- Please respect our students and staff members’ right to privacy. Only students with photo releases may be photographed or filmed and only after the district has given permission (see “Media on school grounds”). Reporters and photographers should check with the school to confirm student photo releases before printing, posting or airing pictures or footage.
- Permission from the communications office is not necessary when covering public events such as athletics; cheer, dance, color guard and band competitions; theater and musical performances; and parades.
- Please respect our students and staff members’ right to privacy.
