ABOUT FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICES

Blue Valley Schools Food and Nutrition Services' meal program serves appealing, reasonably priced meals to your child and to all the students in Blue Valley schools (eligible students may receive meals free or at a reduced price).
Meals are planned by the Director of Food and Nutrition Services, with assistance from cafeteria managers and input from students. All meals meet the criteria and regulations of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Kansas State Department of Education. Extra effort is made to provide low-fat alternatives and to keep the average of calories from saturated fat below 10 percent.USDA FREE MEALS FOR STUDENTS TO END JUNE 30
The USDA’s nationwide free meals for students will conclude with the 2021-22 school year. All Blue Valley students who attend school in person are eligible to receive one free* breakfast and one free* lunch meal daily. No free and reduced meal application is necessary to receive these free meals. The district has been approved for this no cost breakfast and lunch option through the 2021-22 school year. The USDA announced the nationwide free meals will end on June 30, 2022.
*Students participating in the school meal program must order a “student meal” (1/2 c. fruit or vegetable serving with two other food groups (protein, grain, dairy, vegetable) to qualify for free pricing. Anything outside of what is considered a student meal (a la carte, second entrees, extra items, etc.) will be charged to a student’s account. - Elementary school:Students will be able to select a trayed entree and pre-packaged fruits and vegetables. Students will receive a meal card that stays at school and will be used at the register.
- Middle and high school: Students will be able to select entrees, fruits and vegetables, milk, and snacks. At the register students will use a pin pad and the cashier will ring up their purchase.
- Elementary school:Students will be able to select a trayed entree and pre-packaged fruits and vegetables. Students will receive a meal card that stays at school and will be used at the register.

The federal funding support that has provided free school breakfasts and lunches for the past two years is coming to an end at the conclusion of the 2021-22 school year. Families should note that this means:
- Blue Valley is not eligible to offer free meals this summer. Families can find information about Summer Food Service locations online. Locations will be added for June.

WHAT MAKES A SCHOOL LUNCH A MEAL?
- All schools participate in the National School Lunch Program.
- A student must choose 1/2 c. fruit or vegetable serving with two other food groups (protein, grain, dairy, vegetable) to be charged for a student meal.
- If a student does not take the required number of items to make a meal, the meal may cost more than the student meal price because each item will be charged at A la carte prices.
- A student lunch includes a choice of entree, self-serve sides (fruits and vegetables), milk and juice. Learn more with this helpful sign.
- All schools participate in offer versus serve, allowing students to choose which items they would like to take or decline.
- Total fat averages no more than 30 percent of calories over the week.
- Saturated fat averages no more than 10 percent of calories over the week.
- Students may select second entrees, or "doubles," as they come through the line. Additional entrees are charged at A la carte prices.
- Non fat chocolate and 1 percent white milk is available.
- 100 percent juice selections include orange, apple, grape and fruit punch.
- Additional juice and milk may be purchased at A la carte prices.
- All schools participate in the National School Lunch Program.

MEAL PRICES
All students enrolled in Blue Valley will be able to eat A free breakfast and lunch meal, regardless of eligibility status, until further notice as a result of extended funding opportunities through the USDA.

Adult - $3.90 lunch, $2.00 breakfast
Milk - $0.60
A la carte items are available in middle and high schools only and are purchased separately from the regular student meal. Learn more about middle school and high school A la carte pricing.A $2 non-refundable service fee is charged for all debit/credit card payments. The service fee is collected by the third-party processor to cover the processing of payments, similar to online banking fees. Families will continue to have the option to pay fees by electronic check. No service fee is charged with this method of payment.

BREAKFAST AVAILABLE DAILY
All Blue Valley schools provide breakfast, which includes the choice of one entree plus fruit or juice and milk. Breakfast is available for any student who is at school early for before school events.

SMART SNACKS GUIDELINES
USDA science-based nutrition standards called Smart Snacks in School have been implemented. These standards apply to all foods and beverages sold to students during the school day, in and outside of the school meal programs, including vending machines, A la carte, school stores
and fundraising. With the Smart Snacks guidelines, students are well on their way to being healthy, well-nourished and all around better learners. Learn more about Smart Snacks.

Our menus have a new look and are more convenient and informative than ever before! You can now view images and descriptions of the menu items, get nutrition information, filter food allergens for your dietary needs and see the ingredients in the menu. By clicking on the menu in the top right-hand corner of the homepage, you can select a language preference and get news from the Food and Nutrition Services department.
After selecting a school from the menu, filter allergens to match your dietary needs. Nutrislice also offers the ability to print menus. Simply click the printer icon on the lunch menu you would like to print.
