  • *NEW* CRISIS ALERT SYSTEM IMPLEMENTED DURING 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR

Blue Valley has added another layer of physical security to schools and buildings, the ability for all staff members to call for help with the push of a button. During the September Board of Education meeting, the Board unanimously approved a contract with CENTEGIX to implement CrisisAlert™, a new crisis alert system during the second semester of the 2022-23 school year.

CrisisAlert™ empowers all staff members to initiate a call for help. With a simple push of a button on a specialized badge, building officials are alerted to everyday events such as medical or student emergencies or, in the event of a crisis, the touch of a button can initiate a campus-wide lockdown. The alert provides a precise location, enabling building officials to respond quickly in any situation.

More information about CrisisAlert™ is available online.

SCHOOL RESOURCE AND CAMPUS OFFICERS

  • At the heart of the district’s safety efforts is a philosophy that focuses on prevention and healthy, trusted adult-student relationships. Blue Valley’s campus police officers and school resource officers (SROs) focus on building these relationships within their school communities to provide safe environments for students at school and at school-sponsored events.

School resource officers are sworn members of local police departments who serve in middle and high schools. Blue Valley also has a commissioned campus police department with officers serving across the district. Campus officers receive an average of 60 hours of professional training. A minimum of 40 hours annual training is required by the state of Kansas. Campus police officers serve on the Kansas Juvenile Officer Association, Unite KC, Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board and the district’s Flight Team.
